Leaving it alone
If the sheets are intact and not being disturbed, leaving them is a legitimate choice. Keep an eye on cracks, broken edges and moss, and avoid work nearby that could damage them.
Sealing or encapsulation
A specialist sealant can be applied to some asbestos cement roofs in good condition to bind the surface. It needs the roof to be sound and does not remove the material. Ask the contractor whether it suits your roof.
Covering with a new roof
Fitting new sheeting over the old roof can be possible, but structure, fixings and any later work have to be considered. The asbestos stays in place and will need dealing with at some point, which is worth remembering if you sell.
Removing it
Removal takes the problem away for good and lets you fit a new roof or solar-ready structure. It is done with controls: wetting, careful unfixing, double-wrapping and licensed or permitted disposal.
Which is best for you
If the roof is in poor shape, removal is usually the better long-term answer. If it is sound and you are not planning changes, leaving or sealing may be enough. A contractor can advise after seeing photos.
